Let the Music Play!

The All-Bands Concert is this Wednesday night – a great opportunity to cheer for all the dedicated and talented kids who’ve been practicing their saxophones and trumpets and drums since the school year began many months ago.  Thanks to Bob Arsenault for extending the invitation:

The Bristol Warren Performing Arts Department will present its annual All-Bands Concert in the Paolino Center at Roger Williams University on Wednesday, March 16 at 7pm.  The concert will feature more than 300 band members from Kickemuit Middle School and Mt. Hope High School.

The concert will open with the Kickemuit 6th grade band performing “Starfire March”  and “Refried Beans”.  The 7th grade band follows with “Furioso” and “Pageantry for Band”.  The 8th grand band concludes the KMS portion of the program with “Jefferson County Overture” and “Mallet Maniacs”.  The Kickemuit Bands are conducted by Jeffrey Brackett and Melissa Labonte.

The award winning Mt. Hope High School Marching Band will feature the Flag Squad and the Dance Squad performing “Claire’s Song” and “Eye of the Tiger” directed by drum majors Richard Pavao and Emily Cambrola.  The combined Concert and Symphonic Bands will present “Among the Clouds” and “Disney at the Movies” in preparation for their upcoming trip to perform in Disney World.

All musicians will combine to perform American Spirit March.
Admission to the All-Bands Concert is $5.00 and free to students and Senior Citizens.

Did you know?  Practicing music helps develop and strengthen kids’ attention skills, which not only helps them become better musicians, it also extends to their other areas of study, improving their attention-skills in math class, English, science, history, and so on.  And stronger attention skills lead to improved learning experiences!  We’ll be cheering for our young musicians Wednesday night, but we’ll also be applauding our middle school and high school music teachers for their vital and delightful work!

  1. So wonderful to see the Arts Room up and running, and connecting so many of us to the rich cultural experiences in and out of schools, in the community!

Do attend the two Joint Finance Committee meetings, scheduled for Tuesday, March 15 at MHHS auditorium in Bristol and Tuesday, March 29 at KMS auditorium. Both at 7:00 pm. The Town officials must hear your voices and recognize your will to continue funding the enriching education our kids currently receive in this school district. I don’t need to remind you of the traditional means of cutting budgets many are predisposed to use!
Come out with the kids, or on your own if you have none. These are our schools, and the funding is in jeopardy if the Committee which assembles tomorrow and in two weeks does not step up to supply the needed dollars to make up for the lower contribution from the State of RI.
